Lower your auto insurance costs

Last updated: 4/13/2007 11:27:22 AM

Are you doing all you can to save money on your auto insurance? Here are some tips on how to keep your premiums low:

1. Avoid accidents and violations. Tickets and accidents can significantly increase the cost of your premium. Remember to ask for a good-driver discount if you have a clean driving record for the past three years.

2. Keep all of your cars on the same policy. Putting several cars on the same policy may reduce the premiums for all cars.

3. Review your policy terms and coverage on a regular basis. Review your policy annually with your insurance company. When comparison shopping, be sure to look at coverage terms, service, and pricing that is best for you.

4. Keep auto and homeowners insurance with the same company. Not only is this easier for you, but oftentimes you can take advantage of an auto/home discount.

5. Seek out discounts. When reviewing your policy, be sure to take a look at all discounts to see if you qualify for any.

6. Stay with a higher deductible. Higher deductibles can lower your costs substantially. For example, if you increase your deductible from $250 to $500, you could potentially reduce your premium by 15% to 30%.
